POSITION SUMMARY

 

The General Manager is an experienced communications professional with the ability to lead, shape and grow Our Public Relations business in SF and NY, while ensuring that the teams are integrated and working cohesively together.  This person will have a hand in shaping the direction of the agency, while providing leadership and strategic guidance to our clients and staff.  Additionally, the General Manager will make direct impact by managing client relationships and overseeing existing accounts, as well as identifying and closing new business opportunities for our growth. The General Manager will have full P&L responsibility.

 

ORGANIZATIONAL CHARACTERISTICS (reporting structure):

•        The GM position:

o   Is based in our SF office.( travel only to our NYC office 2-3 times a year)

o   Reports to the CEO.

o   Has multiple practice group managers (EVPs, SVPs, VP’s) as direct reports

 

MAIN RESPONSIBILTIES:

 

Business Management:

•        Growth - revenue and profitability!

•        Responsible for overall P&L integrity including revenue, write-offs, direct expenses, etc.

•         Responsible for recruiting and employee retention of top talent to support growth.

•        Update monthly P&L forecasts and advise the CEO on adjustments necessary to meet goals

•        Oversee the implementation and adherence to our policies and procedures

 

Client Management:

•        Account growth – Client retention and satisfaction.

•        Cultivate and manage senior level client relationships; engage and strategize with senior level executives to impact their business

•        Create, lead, manage and execute client strategies and tactics

•        Identify and understand trends within client markets and industries; serve as subject matter expert both to clients and internal to us.

 

 

New Business Development:

•        Initiate, manage and execute business development initiatives to grow the client base  

•        Assess competition and communicate our value proposition to win important new business

•        Position and capitalize upon our integrated services approach, including messaging architecture, content creation, creative services, media relations and analytics.

Team Management:

•        Develop and cultivate deep relationships with agency senior leadership across all of our locations.

•        Serve as mentor and leader to all employees within the organization.

•        Encourage professional development of staff by contributing the necessary time and support to help realize their full potential.

•        Recruit and retain top talent required to deliver stellar client results and achieve objectives

•        Continue to develop a cohesive team while ensuring target business goals are met or exceeded

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

•        Minimum ten years of senior level experience, ideally with both PR agency and client side experience.

•        Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or other related field from top college or university.  Advanced degree a plus.

•        Minimum of 4 years P&L management experience  

•        Excellent entrepreneurial business skills with proven business development skills and a track record of closing and retaining business  

•        Experience making high level presentations to C-level executives  

•        Extensive experience writing high-level strategic proposals, and the ability to sell those plans through to C-level

•        Established record of accomplishing successful results for clients

•        Excellent client and account service record

•        Strong interpersonal communication skills and excellent verbal/written communication skills

•        Strong leadership and managerial skills
