This individual is responsible for planning and of conducting therapeutic activities for both individuals and groups within the program. They also counsel clients on an individual and group basis, and must have a significant to advanced understanding of how therapeutic programs operate and how clients progress through the treatment system and full continuum of care.

Duties may include, but are not limited to carrying out tasks in the therapeutic care, treatment, and rehabilitation of persons with substance use disorder(s) and/or mental health diagnoses; facilitating and supervising individual and group counseling; working with social service agencies, managed care organizations, hospitals, clinics, courts, prisons and other entities in coordinating client care; assisting clients in their access and utilization of community resources; preparing treatment plans, biopsychosocial histories, discharge/ aftercare plans, reports and maintaining accurate records; encouraging, reassuring and giving needed support; recommending educational and occupational training and/or possibilities for placement; and completing assessments and evaluations based on appropriate ASAM criteria.

minimum education/licensure requirements:

Associate’s Degree with two (2) years’ clinical experience; or Bachelor’s degree with one (1) year clinical experience

Responsibilities:

  1. Treat all clients and staff with dignity and respect.
  2. Attend all team / staff meetings as required by Program Director.
  3. Role model pro-social behavior.
  4. Be responsible for a caseload of clients, as identified by program requirements and in accordance with state regulations.
  5. Complete required evaluations and assessments, including clinical assessments and biopsychosocial histories, in accordance with established program guidelines.
  6. Complete individual treatment plans upon clients’ admission, in accordance with established program guideline.
  7. Document all clinical interventions performed within client’s electronic record, and complete monthly treatment reports.
  8. Maintain accurate electronic records on each client and ensure the timely completion of tasks in accordance with established program guidelines and level of care requirements.
  9. Conduct individual and group sessions based on clients’ level of care and state regulations.
  10. Attend, participate, and when necessary, assist in the facilitation of special events, such as retreats and trips.
  11. Moderate special groups and meetings, including family meetings and workshops.
  12. Attend court hearings with clients.
  13. Monitor client progress and adjust treatment plans as needed.
  14. Coordinate with agency and community resources to ensure a thorough treatment plan.
  15. Assist clients with connecting to resources needed to reach personal goals both during the course of treatment and in advance of their discharge.
  16. Assist clients in developing a thorough discharge plan addressing their most salient needs and maintain contact with clients after discharge until they have been established with other case management/social services.
  17. Ensure collection and documentation of urinalysis/ drug screening samples to ensure compliance with treatment requirements.
